No matter you are an Asian, European or else, you are the only one who looks like you! Means, No matter how many beauty standards are there, there is a unique makeup look that fits you the best. It’s different from person to person. It changes due to your favorites, what you see as beautiful, etc.

Last time, we talk about finding your personal style in fashion. In this blog, I’m going to do the 101 guide to find your personal makeup style!
People define ‘Beauty’ in different ways. Someone see round eyes beautiful when other see long eyes beautiful. There also can be people who think both long and round eyes are beautiful (even though they are the complete opposite!). By understanding the reason, why they do their makeup that way, it’ll be easy to understand what the best match for us is!
1) Eyes
- Asian techniques for people who love big eyes
North Asians usually have pretty small eyes. According to their strict beauty standards, they think big round eyes are the most beautiful. Let’s learn about their makeup techniques that they use to make their eyes look bigger. If you are an Asian, I’m pretty sure that you know these techniques. But if you are an Asian who don’t know about this and a person who loves big eyes, this is for you.
· Double eyelids

This is the main category in Asian eye makeup. Key to big eyes! Double eyelids make the illusion of big eyes and 80% of the north Asians doesn’t have natural double eyelids. This is why the double eyelid surgery is the most popular plastic surgery in Asia! There is also a non procedure way which is double eyelid tape. You simply use a skin friendly little double tape to create a double eyelid.
· Under Eye Bag

Under eye bag makeup can also make your eyes look bigger and cuter. The reason for that is, normally kids have big under eye bags. That makes them look cuter. So, Asians use their techniques to make fake big under eye bags. Things you need to create eye bag, will be
o Asian eye bag pen.( Use my code WHITESHADOW for 5% discount)
HOW TO DO IT IN 3 STEPS
1. use the shimmery side of the pen and add a little shimmer in the middle of your eye bag
2. use the liner side of the pen and add a little darkness to the end of your eye bag
3. To pop up your eye bag, use the liner side to draw a curve under where you applied shimmer.
I’m not a North Asian. So I already have big eyes. But still these techniques makes my eyes looks cuter!
· Upside down eyeliner!

When Europeans wear Ariana Grande like liner, Asians wear the upside down version of it! Also they usually use pencil liner rather than using the think liquid liner. Because pencil liner gives a more natural look.
- European techniques for the people who likes long eyes
Even though European makeup standards are not as strict as Asian stereotypes, they still try to make their eyes look longer most of the time. That gives them a sexy look. But unlike on Asian makeup, you can also find makeup techniques that make your eyes bigger that make you look cuter. So European techniques are more diverse!
· Wing/ Cat liner
Europeans care a lot about Eye Liner. They usually use liquid liner. Liner can make your eyes look longer and it also creates an illusion of long and thicker eye lashes!
· Long lashes!

Europeans always try to make their lashes longer and thicker. They care a lot about lashes, when it comes to eye makeup. Long lashes make your eyes look big, Both Asians and Europeans use fake lashes to give more volume to their lashes. But Asians tend to use the more natural looking lashes when Europeans wear various kinds of fake lashes. The solution that everyone use to make their lashes look thick is, Mascara!
· Eye shadow

Europeans tend to use many colors as eye shadow. Even though Asians wear eye shadow, most of the time, they only wear one color. Things you need, to the most simple European eye shadow look, will be,
~An eye shadow palette!
HOW TO DO IT IN 3 STEPS!
1. Wear shimmery light colored eye shadow in the middle of your eyelid
2. Wear a dark color in the inner corner and the outer corner of your eyelid.
3. Use a brush to feather the eye shadow in the outer corner, to give that blended glam look!
- Techniques that everyone use to give a dimension to the eyes
· Highlight
Everyone highlight the eyes to pop out the eye makeup. Usually we highlight the brow bone, and the tip of the eye. It is easy to use Asian Eye bag drawing pen to do these highlights!
2) Face
Asian and European makeup techniques are not as different as lipstick and eye makeup. But still there’s a lot to learn.
- Asian techniques for the people who like a small face !
Asian contour techniques are all about having a small face. A small face, a sharp jawline and V shaped chin! Asian techniques are the best for a cute look!
· Foundation
Asia is all about Natural looks. They don’t usually use highly pigmented products. So Asians always use cushion foundations. Also, Asian makeup is all about moisturized glass skin. So they use foundation that gives a moisturized shine. They like to wear foundation that is a little lighter than their natural skin color.
· Blush
In Asia, blush is the main part of face contouring. That gives them a cute and young look.
· Bronzer and Highlight
Asians always wear shimmery foundation, so they get a natural highlight effect from their foundation. But now, they also started using Bronzer and Highlight. They use bronzer mainly to get a sharp jawline. They use highlighter to highlight the tip of the nose to make it look smaller.
- European makeup for face
As usual, European stereotypes aren’t about a perfect face, it’s all about overall beauty. They don’t always try to make their face just one shape. They do what make them look good.
Also, I’m not going to talk much about European face contouring because there’s a lot to talk about a perfect contour. I’m currently writing a blog named “How to find the perfect contouring method for you (without studying a face shape chart)”(1). I’ll link it here when it’s out!
· Highlight
Europeans use highlight to highlight brow bone, cheek bone, tip of the nose, chin. (refer (1) )
· Bronzer
Europeans use bronzer to darken under the cheek bone and sides of the nose.(refer (1) )
- Face makeup that they both use
· Primer
Both use primer to even out the skin tones. But, Asians specially use primer to make their skin color bright.
· Concealer
Both use concealer to hide the imperfections that foundation couldn’t hide. They use it on the usual uneven toned areas. Under eye and around mouth.
3) Lips
Asian and European lipstick methods are so different. Specially, Asian lipstick techniques are so diverse!
- Asian Lipstick techniques to the people who love thin lips!
My favorite Korean lipstick brand 3CE. Super quality, affordable and beautiful

Asian lipstick methods are all about thin and cute lips. They does their lipstick routines as complex as eye makeup! Asians usually use really bright and light lipstick. And they always wear feminine colors (shades of pink, orange and red). They do gradient lips to make their lips even thinner. To create the gradient lips, things that you need will be,
o A light colored lipstick
o A slightly dark colored lipstick
HOW TO in 3 STEPS!
1st Method
1. Apply the dark color in the inner corner of the lips
2. Apply the light color in the outer corner
3. Blend them well
2nd Method
1. Apply a little bit of foundation in the outer corner of the lips, when wearing foundation
2. Apply the dark color in the inner corner
3. Blend them well
- European Lipstick methods for full, plump lips
Unlike Asians, Europeans like to have full lips. This is the reason why lip injections are famous among Americans. Also, they don’t have special techniques to apply lipstick. They always try to overdraw their lips.
Also, unlike Asian makeup, European lipstick is not much affordable. So I recommend you to buy great Korean brands like 3CE, which have great products for a great price.
- Lip products for both
· Lip Gloss
Both use lip gloss for different makeup looks. But almost all Asians wear glossy lips to match their moisturized face makeup. Since European makeup is so diverse, using gloss changes person to person.
· Lip Balm
They both use lip balm. But Lip balm is a big part in Asian makeup. As they usually go for natural look, they are more likely to use Lip balm as lipstick to make it more natural. Also kpop idols ( male and female) always wear lip balm, when they are bare faced.
Conclusion
- Asian Makeup
Asians care more about skin care. They do a lot of skin care to make their skin healthy. That’s also why 20% Koreans have done plastic surgery. Their goal is always perfection. Their stereotypes are not much practical yet they go for serious surgery like Jaw line surgery to get the Beauty standard that they are seeking.
Asian makeup products don’t usually have big ranges. It is hard to find a foundation for a dark skin, in Asian brands. Also Asian lipsticks are more likely less pigmented. It’s hard to find a highly pigmented makeup product in Asian brands.
But still, if you are a person who loves simple natural makeup, Asian makeup products are for you.
- European Makeup
Even though they care about skin, they always try to hide imperfections by using makeup. They usually go for highly pigmented makeup products. Because of that, you can find the perfect makeup products for you in European makeup. They have a good range of colors for any skin color.

Even though this article is about the different types of makeup techniques in different part of the world, this is only about the stereotypes. When a lot of the Asians and Europeans follow their techniques, some of them don’t even try to follow their own methods. When some experiment different makeup, some wear a combo of Asian and European makeup to wear the perfect look that matches their facial features.

For an example, Lisa from Blackpink. Blackpink is a Korean Pop band so members wear Asian makeup. But the member Lalisa Manoban is Thai. Even though she’s Asian, she don’t have a lot of Asian key features, so she always get a unique makeup from her stylist.
